Position Summary: The Senior Accountant (SA) will work under general supervision, performing relatively complex accounting duties including maintenance and analysis of accounting records, preparation of accounting schedules, reports, and financial statements; prepares journal entries; invoices; reconciles ledger accounts; grant tracking; ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organization’s policies, procedures and contracts. The SA may prepare federal, state, and local tax returns, along with assisting with audit preparations. The SA doesn’t supervise but may advise less experienced accounting staff.

Technical/Functional Expectations:

  • Application Utilization – Essential Function: analyze current accounting system capabilities/processes, to implement changes to help end-users.
  • Data Analysis – Essential Function: Synthesize data, create logical reports and factual performance through historical or trend analysis.
  • Quality Service Standards – Essential Function: Create meaningful relationships with all partners within the System of Care to maintain and improve the delivery of quality of services with respect to financial reporting.
  • Reports Preparation - Essential Function: Collect, analyze, and summarize data with regards to financial analyses and prepare reports for users, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient use of Computer Applications – Essential Function: Must possess strong MS, Excel skills, and other computer applications to assist in analysis, data collection, and reporting of data to enhance our quality improvement process.
  • Volunteerism – Essential Function: Must be able to support the organization’s events and other events where Children in Crisis is the benefiting charity.
  • Other duties as required: Job performance requires fulfilling other incidental or related duties as assigned, assisting, and training others, and performing duties of higher level from time to time for development purposes.

Business Experience:

  • Relationship-focused, Collaborative Communication Skills: Strong communication skills both written and verbal are required to communicate with various internal and external stakeholders at various levels with regards to accounting functions and programs.
  • Excellent Financial Acumen: This is required to provide detailed financial analyses, reports, revenue projections, and forecasting expenditures. In addition, this is required for preparing, monitoring budgets, reconciling balance sheets, general ledgers, assisting with annual audit, investigating/resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of noncompliance.
  • Excellent Organization and Attention to Detail Skills: This is required to manage multiple priorities while maintaining data integrity of several sources.
  • Strategic Development: This is required to assist in the development of strategic initiatives that identify grant funding opportunities.
  • Application Utilization: This is required to contribute knowledge regarding the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
  • Ability to Fundraise: This is required to support the mission and meet the budget.
  • Valid Driver’s License: This is required to travel throughout Circuit 1 to attend meetings, conferences, events, etc.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • BA/BS- Accounting/Finance or other related field preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ accounting experience working in nonprofit.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Strong organizational and stress management skills.
  • Must be able to pass a level-II background check (employment, criminal history, driving, personal references, Affidavit of Good Moral Character (Florida).
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment requirements (ex. Drug Screen)
